"Nourishing the seeds of healing after you step out of the treatment space"
A session at Aesha Spirit doesn't necessarily end when you leave the treatment room.
I like to think of acupuncture as turning up the volume on the body's conversation, giving you an opportunity to notice signals that have been quietly there all along. For many of us, especially when we have become accustomed to pushing through, staying busy or simply ignoring what our body is asking for, these signals can be easy to overlook.
After a session, you may feel more relaxed, tired, emotional, energised — or notice very little at all. Every person is different. Not everything needs to be felt immediately; sometimes awareness unfolds gradually as you return to your everyday life.
The hours or days that follow your session can become a gentle space to notice what is arising, respond to what you need and allow the experience of your treatment to integrate into your everyday life.
Your body may feel different after a treatment. Some people feel relaxed or tired, while others feel much as they did before the session.
There is no strict aftercare protocol, but I recommend giving yourself a little space to notice how you feel and allowing the effects of the session to settle.
If possible, give yourself some quieter time after your treatment. Gentle walking, stretching, journaling or simply having some uninterrupted time can be a nice way to transition back into your day. You don't necessarily need to avoid your usual activities, but I recommend listening to your body and avoiding strenuous exercise if you feel tired, light-headed or unusually fatigued.
If you feel sleepy or light-headed after acupuncture, please wait until you feel fully alert before driving.
From a TCM perspective, we often recommend keeping the body warm and avoiding exposure to strong cold or drafts immediately after treatment.
You don't need to follow this rigidly — simply dress comfortably and keep yourself warm, particularly if you tend to feel cold after treatment.
Drink water according to your usual needs and allow yourself to stay comfortably hydrated after your session.
Warm water or herbal teas (eg. ginger, chamomile or jujube date tea) can be a soothing option if you enjoy it. Avoid icy cold drinks.
If you are hungry after your treatment, choose food that feels nourishing and easy for you to digest.
Warm, cooked meals such as soups, stews, congee or steamed vegetables are lovely options, particularly if they are already part of your usual way of eating.
Where possible, avoid immediately moving from your treatment into a particularly hectic or demanding part of your day.
You don't need to avoid everything you normally do. Rather, think of the hours after treatment as an opportunity to slow down, notice how you feel and give yourself some space before returning to your usual rhythm.
If you have received cupping, guasha or other hands-on treatment, some temporary tenderness, redness or bruising may occur. This is generally expected with these techniques and should settle with time.
Your aftercare may vary depending on the treatment you've received and how you are feeling on the day. I will let you know if there are any specific recommendations relevant to your session.
You may also find it helpful to write down anything you notice in the hours or days following your session — whether it is a change in how you feel physically, emotionally, mentally or simply something that catches your attention. These observations can be a useful way to cultivate awareness of subtle changes that might otherwise go unnoticed, and can also give us valuable information to reflect on together at your next session.
If you experience anything unusual or concerning after treatment, please get in touch or seek appropriate medical advice.
Everyone responds to treatment uniquely, and your experience may vary from session to session depending on what your system needed most that day.
Deep Calm or Relaxation: You may feel pleasantly grounded, lighter, or deeply relaxed—as if you've just woken from a long sleep.
Gentle Fatigue: Feeling sleepy or heavy after a session is a common sign that your body has dropped out of chronic "fight-or-flight" and is craving genuine rest.
Emotional Release: Unexpressed emotions stored in the organs or fascia may surface as feelings, memories, thoughts, sudden insight/clarity that invite further reflection. There is no need to force or interpret them — simply notice what arises and observe what unravels.
Temporary Shift in Symptoms: Occasionally, physical symptoms may briefly intensify before noticeably improving. This is a normal part of the body's self-healing response as circulation returns to stagnant areas.
If your session involved deep psycho-emotional exploration, meditation or spiritual reflection, you may feel an opening in your subtle bodies over the coming days. Here are simple ways to hold space for yourself:
Journaling: Write down any dreams, insights, or emotional shifts that arise without judging or overanalyzing them.
Nature Connection: Spend 15–20 minutes walking barefoot on grass, sitting near trees, or resting under sunlight to help ground excess mental energy back into the earth.
Mindful Boundaries: Give yourself permission to slow down, rest and say "no" to draining social engagements or overwhelming activities/environments.
If you were prescribed a custom herbal formulation during your consultation:
Consistency is Key: Take your herbs according to the directions provided with your prescription (typically twice daily).
Timing: Follow the specific timing instructions given to you. If you are taking other medications, I may recommend separating your herbs from them by approximately two hours as an additional precaution.
Notice Changes: Observe how your body responds over the week. If you experience unexpected digestive and bowel movement changes, simply contact the clinic so we can adjust your dosage or review your prescription.
Sometimes questions or reflections may arise after your session. If you would like to check in about your post-treatment experience, herbal prescription, or anything that comes up as you continue to integrate, you are welcome to reach out via email or phone.
I will get back to you within a reasonable timeframe during my usual working hours. Please understand that I may not be immediately available to respond, as messages are not monitored continuously.
For anything urgent or requiring immediate medical attention, please seek appropriate care rather than waiting for a response.
